research Opportunities
Several Australian organisations and universities are conducting studies in order to ascertain the effects of losing a child during pregnancy, infancy or childhood. The data collected will support the development of resources and appropriate care for bereaved parents. This research is looking to involve mothers and fathers, so as to gain an understanding of the grief experienced. It is hoped that these studies will lead to improved practices and increased support for those affected by such a tragedy.
Examining Support Systems for Australian Men Coping with Stillbirth.
The University of the Sunshine Coast is conducting a study into Australian men’s experience accessing support following the loss of their baby to stillbirth.
Participants have the option of completing a short 15–20-minute survey and/or conversational style interview where you can share your experience in a comfortable and open manner. We understand that this is an extremely sensitive topic for individuals to discuss, however, if you feel comfortable, we would love for you to participate. Our aim is to gain a better understanding into Father’s experiences and how services and supports could be better at responding to stillbirth loss.

Investigating the Lived Experience
following a Stillbirth since the 1960s
The purpose of this research is to examine the lived experience following a stillbirth of mothers, fathers and siblings during the period 1960 to the present day. Through an analysis of participants’ oral histories, this research will consider how such accounts offer insight into the meaning of the lived experience following a stillbirth.
If you are a mother, a father, or a sibling with a lived experience following a stillbirth at any time during the period 1960 ‘til the present day, and you are interested in participating in research attempting to describe and understand your lived experience, or if you know of any mothers, fathers, and/or siblings who may be interested in participating, and you/they wish to find out what your/their involvement would be in the research, the research team would encourage you to please email the PhD candidate:
